UNRISD Paper Explores Meaning of Green Economy
29 November 2012: A new paper published by the UN Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) examines key challenges facing policy makers and other actors in making social concerns more central to the green economy.
In the paper, titled "Green Economy or Green Society? Contestation and Policies for a Fair Transition," the authors address the meaning and the implementation of the green economy. Citing agreement that the current global environmental challenge requires a major transformation, the authors say disagreement still exists on the nature of this transformation. The authors conclude that power relations, governance arrangements and participatory processes are central to how green economy, in conceptual and policy terms, is conceived and implemented.
