UN ESCAP Launches Green Growth e-Learning Facility

15 September 2011: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), in partnership with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific, have announced the establishment of an e-learning facility on green growth, to build capacity for Asia and Pacific policy makers.

According to ESCAP, the UK-funded facility provides a set of interactive training modules, coaching by an online trainer, and an online reference library. Participants will receive certificates after the successful completion of each module, including the submission of national case studies detailing green growth policies and actions. Middle-level government managers and ministerial officials are the target audience for the facility, according to ESCAP. The first course will run for six weeks, beginning on 3 October 2011.

ESCAP says the facility will be expanded in 2012 and 2013, when it is expected to provide additional learning opportunities, including on low-carbon green growth tracks, policies, payment for environmental services, eco-efficiency indicators, sustainable water resources and waste for energy.
