Summit Watch Launched to Track Government Action Ahead of Rio+20

April 2012: The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Road to Rio+20 and the Stakeholder Forum have launched “Earth Summit Watch,” an initiative that aims to track the activities of national governments in preparation for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

While a reported 120 Heads of State and Government have committed to attend Rio+20, the organizers of this initiative note that no specific information has been published about their preparations. This initiative aims to fill this information gap by collecting and publishing information on what every country is doing to prepare for Rio+20. Earth Summit Watch is obtaining necessary information from national governments, and has also called for “Summit-Watchers” - civil society organizations around the world -- to contribute information on their countries' preparations for the Conference. These organizations can supply the required information by completing a survey that is available on the Earth Summit Watch website. [Earth Summit Watch Website]
