North American SCP Workshop Focuses on Green Building
1 February 2011: The Governments of Canada and the US, along with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), hosted the North American Sustainable Consumption and Production Workshop on Green Building in Ottawa, Canada, from 31 January-1 February 2011.
The workshop brought together approximately 85 participants from governments, business, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and academia, to discuss green building as an application of international sustainable consumption and production (SCP) efforts. The meeting's deliberations will provide input to the May 2011 meeting of the 19th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD 19) and its agenda item on a 10-year framework of programmes (10YFP) on SCP, as well as to the 2012 meeting of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
Four background papers were prepared for the workshop, on “Sustainable Consumption and Production,” “Green Building Key Topics,” “Existing Canada-US Collaboration on Green Building” and “UNEP Background Paper on International Processes on Sustainable Consumption and Production.” The workshop report will be online at the workshop website in early March. Slide presentations from the speakers are available on the workshop website. [Workshop Website] [Slide Presentations from Workshop]
