ECLAC Holds Pre-Rio+20 Expert Meeting
17 December 2010: The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) held a meeting of government-designated experts of Latin America and the Caribbean, preparatory to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20). The event convened under the title: "A green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication and the institutional framework for sustainable development."
The meeting's focus corresponded with the two themes that UN General Assembly resolution 64/236 identified as central to UNCSD, which is scheduled to convene in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2012. Jiří Hlaváček, Vice-Chair of the Bureau for the Preparatory Process of the UNCSD, highlighted the steps undertaken in the preparatory process, key players and the role of the Latin America and the Caribbean region in discussions.
Experts and officers from ECLAC, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and others participated in the event. Presentations are available online. [Meeting Agenda and Presentations] [Meeting Report]
