DESA Highlights UN-OSD Seminar on Energy for Sustainable Development

1 September 2011: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) has published its September 2011 newsletter, with articles on a seminar on energy requirements for sustainable development and the future of forests, among others.

The article on the future of forests highlights the upcoming announcement of the winner of the 2011 Future Policy Award celebrating national forest policies, to be awarded by the World Future Council, DESA's UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) Secretariat, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The newsletter continues with a piece on the UN Office for Sustainable Development's (UN-OSD) recent seminar on energy requirements of sustainable development, held from 25-26 August 2011, in Incheon, Republic of Korea. Attended by government representatives, academics and other experts, the meeting discussed the “knowledge map” on sustainable development and energy being developed by UN-OSD, and explored and analyzed trends and challenges of transitioning to sustainable development on the road to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
