Basel, Stockholm and Rotterdam Secretariats Release Details of Current Funding Shortfalls

October 2012: The Secretariats of the Basel, Stockholm and Rotterdam Conventions have released details of the current contributions to the Technical Cooperation Trust Fund of the Basel Convention, and the Special Voluntary Trust Funds of the Rotterdam and Stockholm Convention for the implementation of the Conventions' Programmes of Work (PoW), as approved by their respective Conferences of the Parties (COPs).

Released in tabular format on the synergies website, the tables contain information on received contributions for approved activities under the three Conventions, including synergies, as well as possible funding gaps in case no or partial funding has been received. Under the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal (Basel Convention), a total current funding gap of US$4,076,463 is identified. Under the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade (Rotterdam Convention), a total current funding gap of US$937,341 is identified. Under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) (Stockholm Convention), a total current funding gap of US$3,296,056 is identified. Under activities related to synergies among the chemicals and waste conventions, a total current funding gap of US$4,237,000 is identified.
