AfDB’s High Level Panel on Fragile States Discusses Improved Engagement
14 June 2013: The African Development Bank's (AfDB) High Level Panel on Fragile States met to discuss improving AfDB engagement with fragile states, commissioning analytical papers and country missions to inform on key priority areas.
Chaired by Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia, the Panel met on 14 June 2013, in Monrovia, Liberia. The meeting provided an opportunity for members to discuss and build on the New Deal for Engagement in Fragile States, which was agreed upon at the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF 4) held in November 2011 in Busan, Republic of Korea. Discussions emphasized the long-term nature of the process, discussed areas of support including institutional capacity building and assisting in the post-2015 development agenda process.
The High Level Panel on Fragile States was established by the AfDB to review the AfDB's current arrangements and formulate recommendations to improve the allocation of resources to fragile states and increase the quality and impact of as well as enhance AfDB engagement with these countries at national and regional level. The Panel is composed of eminent leaders and assisted by an AfDB-wide task force.
