E-discussion on Sustainability and Growth

The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) are convening an e-discussion on Sustainability and Growth, from 31 January-15 March 2013. This e-discussion, taking place on the World We Want 2015 website, is one of a series of four on growth and employment, as part of the Global Consultation on Growth and Employment for the post-2015 development agenda.

E-discussion on Energy and Means of Implementation

An e-discussion on Energy and Means of Implementation of energy goals is taking place on the World We Want 2015 platform, from 25 February to 8 March 2012. Its objective is to examine how to drive innovation, financing and scaled up solutions in the energy sector, with the participation of guest commentators. Viewers are invited to comment, discuss and debate key questions on this topic through the online platform. This e-discussion is one of four online consultations that are part of the Global Thematic Consultation on Energy, which aims to build consensus on a set of global objectives and priorities for energy within the post-2015 development agenda. This consultation is co-led by UN-Energy and the UN Secretary-General's Sustainable Energy For All Initiative (SE4ALL), and supported by the Governments of Mexico and Norway.

The 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP 16) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) will address proposals to amend the Convention appendices and several administrative, strategic and financial issues. CITES was adopted in Washington DC, US, on 3 March 1973, and the 40th anniversary of the Convention will be celebrated at the March 2013 event.

CSW 57

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and is the principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. At its annual sessions, the CSW systematically reviews progress in the implementation of areas of concern identified in the Beijing Platform for Action, and adopts recommendations to facilitate increased implementation. The priority theme for the 57th session of the CSW (CSW 57), which will convene in March 2013, will be the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls.

Caribbean Forum: Shaping a Sustainable Development Agenda to address the Caribbean Reality in the 21st Century

Informal consultations on small island developing States (SIDS) will take place on 5-6 March 2013, in Bogota, Colombia, preceding the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Conference on Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean. This conference serves as the Regional Implementation Meeting (RIM). It will have the theme, "Follow-up to the development agenda beyond 2015 and Rio+20".

High-Level Consultation on Health

As part of the Post-2015 Development Agenda Global Thematic Consultations, this High-Level Leadership Meeting will bring together Member States, non-governmental organizations and civil society to discuss and develop agenda suggestions on health for the Post-2015 Development Framework. The meeting is scheduled to take place from 5-6 March 2013 in Botswana. This consultation is co-led by UNICEF and WHO, and co-hosted by the Governments of Botswana and Sweden.

Google+ Hangout on Youth Migration and Development

The UN Focal Point on Youth is organizing a Google+ Hangout on “Youth migration and development: towards sustainable solutions,” as part of activities related to the forthcoming UN World Youth Report 2013. The event will explore the relationship between youth migration and issues such as environmental change, the post-2015 development agenda, access to social services, remittances and social integration. The event will feature a panel of experts on youth migration and development, including: Bela Hovy, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA); Jo Rispoli, International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office, East and Southern Africa; Daniel Pettersson, Permanent Mission of Sweden to the UN; Lonneke van Zundert, youth representative; and Dynka Amorim, young immigrant activist. The event will also include a question and answer session. The Google+ Hangout will also feature a 20-minute live Q&A session with the panelists. Participants can tweet questions to @UN4Youth using #youthmigration or post questions on the UNyouthyear Facebook page. This Google+ Hangout is targeted at young people (15-35 years of age) in addition to UN staff, members of Permanent Missions, civil society, the private sector and academia.

Expert Consultation on Knowledge and Capacity Needs for Sustainable Development in Post-Rio+20 Era

The UN Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) is organizing this workshop in order to provide an initial mapping of sustainability knowledge assets, activities and actors, allowing for better definition of needs and priorities in policy-making knowledge and capacity, particularly in the post-Rio+20 (UN Conference for Sustainable Development, or UNCSD) context. The Workshop will convene experts in the field of sustainability knowledge representing governments, UN system entities, development banks and civil society to assess the capacities and knowledge needs for making the transition towards sustainable development and consolidating a global network of peer practitioners and organisations. This meeting previously was scheduled for 3-5 December 2012.
